Sofya Mirvis is a Philadelphia-based artist born in Moscow, Russia. She holds an MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a BFA from Tyler School of Art. She has exhibited her work throughout the United States and Rome, following Rome Painting Studio Residency. Exhibitions include 532 Gallery New York, The Russian Cultural Center Washington DC, The Painted Bride Art Center, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Notre Dame University of Maryland, among many others.
Sofya's work explores tactile media collaborations within the framework of drawing and painting. Her dreamscapes evoke elusive mystery as they address the impermanence of our environment. Weather patterns and landforms are infused with a lingering human presence that fades into the shifting landscape.
In the community, Sofya curates, teaches and develops programming for artists with special needs. Sofya's students have exhibited in ArtAbility, the St. Louis Outsider Art Fair, and have works in the collection of the Visionary Art Museum, Baltimore. She has taught at Oasis Art Center, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and Bryn Mawr College. Currently, Sofya develops and implements vocational and creative programming for special populations as a part of New Foundations, a division of Resources for Human Development.
