Richard Metz is a Philadelphia area artist who has been making work for more then 30 years. He has a BFA from Tyler School of Art and an MFA from Maine College of Art. He teaches art at a suburban public high school. He is married and has two grown sons, who are musicians.
The concerns of his work are expressive, humorous, and ideological. His woodcut prints are related to the Expressionist Movement with a nod to Dr. Suess, in their emotion and style. The works embrace content and character, while paying attention to the materials and composition. Much of Metz’s recent works are environmental hybrid creations, combining plants with human forms.
Richard Metz has shown work in numerous Philadelphia area galleries and beyond, and has done outdoor painted tree installations and residencies across the country for the past four years. His work seeks to engage viewers with a playful sensibility, and draw us closer to the natural world.
