HOLIDAY EXHIBITION: NOVEMBER 3 - DECEMBER 31, 2016
PRESS: Download Publicity Package (zip file)

The Holiday Season is in full festive swing with JAM Gallery’s new Holiday Exhibition. Some of the finest talents from the region will be on display (and sale) for the public from November 3 through December 31. The opening reception will be on Saturday November 12 from 5 to 8 PM, with a special talk by glass artist Steven Schaefer about his work around 6:30 PM. The reception is free and open to the public and features complimentary refreshments as well as a chance to meet and chat with artists represented in the show.

"This holiday season, JAM Gallery offers gifts that cannot be found elsewhere. An original work of art not only embodies the vision of its creator, but part of the artist's inner self will always be present through the personal craftsmanship of each exclusive painting or sculpture ," says JAM Gallery owner and artist Melanie Fisher.

Artist Steven Schaefer currently lives in Malvern, PA, and has been working with glass since 2012. According to Schaefer, “There is a deeply primal aspect to creating art that begins in a formless molten state of 2200 degrees. It requires fluid techniques, intense focus, and commands respect. It is a work in progress spanning decades to obtain mastery of it.The potential for failure can be high, but so are the rewards when everything goes right. This is the education you obtain from working with glass. My inspiration can come from a multitude of sources. However, I find that I gravitate towards the natural world as my primary muse. I strive to make each work unique. They have an organic flow to them with soft curves, bubbles, and a sense of fluid movement as core elements. A recent exploration of a technique that sculpts with compressed air, is producing some fascinating results. When applied to the outer skin of molten glass, short blasts of air can create natural curves and fissures that grab and bend light in unexpected ways. This technique transforms any object at its core, into something new for the eye to behold.”

The Holiday Exhibition will display artwork by both resident JAM Gallery artists Melanie Fisher and Lynnette Shelley as well as original works by artists: William Sulit, Jack Hanson, Margaret Barth, Chris Paxson, Lore Evans, Supriyo Sahoo, Bob Bauers, Wendy Edsall-Kerwin, Erica Brown, Tim Gibson, Kathryn Noska, Susan Gilli, Marianne Tebbens, Steven Schaefer, Brandon Lord Ross, Daisy Cohen, Jennifer Domal, Vidya Shyamsundar, Norm Dodge, Bok Read, and Rose Manteghian.

JAM Gallery owner Melanie Fisher, who has three miniature horses of her own, chose to work with Ryerss to be a part of the benefit show because, "I became interested in Ryerss Horse Farm after acquiring two miniature horses (who later produced a foal.) There are a number of minis in the rural area of my home, which my husband and I have long admired. When I heard from my friend Nancy Schwab that Ryerss Horse Farm has worked with miniature horses, I thought that the farm could give me some additional pointers on the care of them. Visiting Ryerss Horse Farm was a wonderful experience. I met all of the horses, and learned of their touching stories.

At Ryerss, the animals are treated with respect, kindness, and affection. The staff is both knowledgeable and insightful of the importance of rescue and retirement. Theirs is truly a worthy and vital cause."

JUNE 6 - AUGUST 3, 2014: SUMMER EXHIBITION
JAM Gallery welcomes in the summer with its Summer Exhibition from June 6 through August 3. In conjunction with the warmer months, JAM will be extending its hours starting in June as well as switching art receptions from First Fridays to Second Saturdays. For the Summer Exhibition, the Second Saturday receptions will be June 14 and July 12 from 5-8 PM.

In addition, on June 14 at 2 PM artist Jennifer Domal will be doing an artist demonstration at the gallery, showing visitors the art of pysanky — traditional wax resist and dyed eggs. Domal has acid-etched or dyed chicken, duck, goose, emu, rhea and ostrich eggs on display and sale at JAM Gallery.

According to Domal, "Pysanky have grown in the past several hundred years and not just because of Karl Faberge. American innovation with European tradition creates a new type of pysanky. Acid etched eggs are a new innovation using wax resist and an acid to etch the surface. It's very American. Sculptural, defining and elevating an old craft that welcomed spring, the sun and all things pagan and eventually became a symbol of Christ into something that is fine art."

The Summer Exhibition will feature work by both resident JAM Gallery artists Melanie Fisher and Lynnette Shelley as well as sculpture, paintings, original prints, and mixed media works by Curtis Coyote, Karen Delaney, Frank DePietro, Jennifer Domal, Kristen Egan, Jonathan Hertzel, Katie Keally, Sue Kelly, Karen Kieser, Diane Levenson, Daiva Lozyte, Adam Lovitz, Sandi Neiman Lovitz, Rose Manteghian, Carla Lombardi, Doug Mott, Katie Naber, Brandon Lord Ross, Leo Sewell, Michael Stancato, Alexandra Thomas, and Kristen Woodward.

JAM Gallery is proud to recognize Earth Day, April 22, with our Spring "Eco Arts" Exhibition, which opens to the public on April 4, 2014 and runs through June 1, 2014. Receptions for the artists and gallery visitors will be held First Fridays on April 4 and May 2 from 5 to 8 PM. Light refreshments will be served. Most of the contributing artists for the Spring "Eco Arts" exhibition use recycled or repurposed materials, or address environmental themes, or have a focus on nature in their art. Among the more unusual materials used are machine embroidery threads discarded by clothing manufacturers, expired metro cards, and pieces of driftwood gathered from the New Jersey shoreline in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

07.01.13: There's a New Gallery In Town
Residents of the historic town of Malvern, as well as area art collectors and artists alike, have a new name to look forward to on the art scene in Pennsylvania: JAM Gallery. Artist and long-time Malvern resident Melanie Fisher is launching JAM Gallery later this month at 321 East King Street, conveniently located between the new Eastside Flats apartment complexes.

JAM grew out of a desire to start an art community in the heart of Malvern as well as to offer contemporary paintings and sculpture to sophisticated and modern art collectors who are looking for uniquely creative and quality works. As JAM grows, the gallery will feature artists from all over the country in addition to including regional top talents as well as emerging artists under its roof. All artworks in the gallery will be for sale in a variety of price ranges. Besides hosting rotating art shows, the gallery will also feature a permanent collection of artwork by the award-winning Fisher as well as fellow Pennsylvania artist Lynnette Shelley.

"I am honored to provide an exhibition venue for creative individuals, and I look forward to offering my community a unique source of painting and sculpture," Fisher says.

Having received her B.F.A from the Columbus College of Art and Design, Fisher spent her early career as a graphic designer, and received the 1985 Award of Excellence from the Columbus Society of Communicating Arts. Interested in art history, Melanie received an advanced degree in the field (Ph.D. from The Ohio State University) and taught both commercial design and art history at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. Having moved to Malvern in 1998, Melanie devotes her creative time to painting and illustration. Much of her inspiration comes from her longstanding interest in patterns. Influenced by such diverse areas as fabric design, glass-blowing, ethnic symbols, and geometry, Melanie’s goal is to create sophisticated compositions which are both decorative and intriguing. Fisher’s paintings have been exhibited at a number of private galleries in the U.S., as well as The State Museum of Pennsylvania, John James Audubon Center, PA, and Fairleigh Dickenson University, NJ.

Shelley, who is Marketing Director at JAM gallery as well as co-curator with Fisher, is an award-winning artist known for her intricately stylized artworks incorporating animals, folklore, mythology and archetypes. Her highly-detailed mixed media paintings and drawings have been shown regionally as well as nationally, in such diverse venues as the State Museum of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg; the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia; the Yellow Springs Art Show in Chester Springs, PA; Swarthmore Collge in Swarthmore, PA; the Maryland Federation of Art in Annapolis; the Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE; and the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto, CA.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the launch of JAM Gallery," Shelley says. "I think there is a real thirst in Chester County for quality contemporary art as well as for artists who have a unique voice in the art scene."

JAM's first exhibition will open to the public on August 10, 2013 and run through September 29th, 2013. The gallery will feature work by both Fisher and Shelley as well as artists from Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York, including: Thomas Del Porte, Karen Delaney, Jay A. Grassel, Curtis Coyote, Monique Kendikian-Sarkessian, Brandon Lord Ross, Jason Lyons, Laura Green, Kathy Miller, Jeanne Petrosky and Dennis Guzenski. Please visit our artist page on the website for information on each artist.

There will be an opening reception on August 10th from 5 PM to 7 PM as well as an artist reception on First Friday, September 6th from 5 PM to 8 PM. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be served.
