The paintings of Linda Guenste have always been autobiographical. Whether she is exploring the structural center of a tree or the personal reaction to the environment, she assumes the role of amanuensis and projects a series of emotions meant to be interpreted and absorbed. Each piece tells a story; many times through the image on the canvas or paper, but mostly through the eyes of the viewer. The canvas activates the viewer and creates a dialogue. She is currently exploring social issues in addition to family history and time.Guenste attended The Arts Students League in New York City and received a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art and a Certificate from Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia. She has been a full time painter for 30+ years now and has exhibited work in galleries throughout Pennsylvania as well as in New York, New Jersey, Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Georgia. She has also taught at numerous cultural institutions – museums, art centers, schools and galleries.
An avid traveler, she has wandered nearly every state in the union as well as most countries in Europe, the Caribbean, Russia, Greece, Japan, Indo China, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Mexico and Morocco, not necessarily in that order.
She currently lives and works in Bucks County with her husband, sculptor Jonathan Hertzel, and her son Ezra and dog Marley.
