Raised outside of Philadelphia, in rural Chester County, Joanne L. Carothers has a passion for organic, natural forms, and the natural landscape of Pennsylvania. Currently she is developing a body of “plein air” paintings of landscapes and garden scenes. “Painting outdoors offers me challenges in creating atmosphere, color and depth perception intuitively, along with the unforeseen obstacles Mother Nature throws my way.”
When not plein air painting, then Joanne is in the studio pursuing her other passion, printmaking. There she incorporates various printmaking techniques with natural objects and hand–made paper in more abstract collagraphs and monoprints. Her prints are developed by layers of inks on multiple plates with several passes through an etching press.
Ms Carothers holds a BA in Fine Arts from Millersville University, PA with 3 years post graduate studies in printmaking from Montgomery Univ., Rockville, MD and the Union Printmakers Atelier, George Washington Univ., Wash., D.C.
