GAIL MORRISON HALL
MIXED MEDIA ARTIST (PA)
Gail was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1944. She lived until age 5 in West Philadelphia in the house attached to her grandfather’s grocery store. At age 6 the family moved to the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia where she lived through her public school years. After her graduation from high school they moved to Plumsteadville, PA in Bucks County. While attending elementary and junior high schools Gail entertained various ideas about “what I want to be when I grow up”. Upon entering high school she enrolled in Saturday art classes then sponsored by the Philadelphia School District; her instructor looked at her work and said “you are going to be an art major, aren’t you?” And that was it! She knew “what she wanted to be when she grew up”.Gail I was accepted into Tyler School of Art on full scholarship intending on a career as a fine artist. Her parents, like many of their generation, were products of the Depression and encouraged her to get additional certification in education, “to have something to fall back on”. While doing her practice teaching she realized that she was really good at working with younger kids in the art room. Gail continued her studies earning advanced degrees (MA ed +60 additional credits)from Arcadia University (then Beaver College), Penn State and Temple Universities.
Gail’s own art work went on the back burner while she pursued a successful career in the classroom as an art specialist. Except for a brief stint out West, she focused on teaching art rather than making art. Combining the two just didn’t work for her, one or the other suffered. Now that she is no longer teaching full-time she has been able to focus on her own artistic expression and making and exhibiting her own art.
She has been juried into numerous local, regional and international exhibitions. Her work is included in public and private collections in New Mexico, Utah, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Florida, Philadelphia, Montgomery and Bucks Counties. Most recently, one of her paintings was purchased for the permanent art collection of Park Towne Place Apartments in Philadelphia.
