Charanya is a self-taught artist. Born in the South of India and raised in the Eastern parts, her works reflect the diverse cultural values and rich color palette of her home, India. Her works are influenced by her extensive travel across India and her interactions with the various Tribal communities. She works on handmade and recycled paper and sometimes, on canvas covered with old Dravidian pages and enjoy them peeking through the artwork, which are often based on conversations from daily life or stories from childhood nostalgia.
Charanya's vivid colors and captivating themes won her the Best Emerging Artist Award at the Manayunk Art Fair in 2013. She is currently working with earth pigments collected by her from the nature and is researching on the color-making techniques of Ancient India.
When not in the color-world, she sings and rehearses Carnatic music, the classical music of South India.
Charanya currently lives and works out of Audubon, PA.
