PAINTER & SCULPTOR (PA)
Bradbury Mattes graduated from Marlboro College in Vermont with a B.A. and later earned his certificate from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Classically trained, he produces paintings, drawings, sculptures and intaglio prints.
Bradbury has been showing his work since 1982 in a wide range of venues. His earliest work consisted of landscapes in oil. He then he turned to abstract steel pieces. He returned to his initial love of landscapes for many years, painting in a neo-impressionist style with a sometimes photo-realist cast.
Recently Brad has delved into mixed media, creating works on paper with a combination of acrylic paint, oil pastel and archival colored pencil. Many of these new works are completely abstract, while some of them hint at representational subject matter.
Bradbury has received awards from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove, Pa.
